Poster and brochure for "Transnationala" by Irwin, 1996

This is a fold out poster for "Transnationala" by Irwin, a promotional document for a film and a book of Alexander Brener, Vadim Fishkin Yuri Leiderman, a five-member team from the Irwin group, Eda Čufer, and Michael Benson traveling across the US to gather "impressions of the indigenous culture, to exchange views with the natives, and to make contact with the American system of art, politics, theory, ethics, economics—and with the myth of America itself. Throughout the journey, as they meet up with artists in the US, "short textual and video reports were sent via the internet and transmitted on a TV monitor located in Irwin's vehicle in the Bojimans Museum in Rotterdam." This is "part conceptual art project, part search for community, part alien encounter between East and West, part investigation of individual vs. collective identity, part research into networks, protocols, and communication, and part psychological endurance test."
During this journey they meet up with James Acord, and a photograph of the back of Acord's neck — with his radiocative materials handling license number — is represented on this item.
